  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the establishment of the National Institute for Sowa-Rigpa in Leh, Ladakh.
  • Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai informed that Census 2021 will be conducted in 16 languages. Census will be conducted in two phases– House-listing and Housing Census from April to September 2020 and Population Enumeration during February 09-28, 2021.
  • The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC)has installed first of its kind high-end reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) machines in India for quick detection of diseases like dengue, tuberculosis and swine flu. Note: Jagdeep Dhankhar is the governor of West Bengal.
  • The Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2019 will be conferred on renowned naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough for his tireless work to preserve and protect biodiversity.
  • India captain Virat Kohli was named People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India’s ‘Person of the Year for 2019’ for his animal advocacy efforts.
  • India’s Manu Bhakercreated history at World Cup Finals in Women’s 10m Air Pistol event. She bagged India’s first gold medal in the tournament this year.
  • World Children’s Day was celebrated on 20th November.
  • World Television Day was observed on 21st November.
  • The World Philosophy Day is observed globally on the third Thursday of November every year. This year it was observed on 21st November.
  • The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corp (KSTDC)signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to market and operate the Golden Chariot train.  The Golden Chariot is South India’s only luxury train.
  • The Union Minister of the Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers conferred the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019 awards to top-ranked states, union territories, and districts. The top-ranked state: Tamil Nadu, and the top-ranked district: Peddapalli (Telangana), along with the state with the maximum citizen participation: Uttar Pradesh.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind and Supreme Commander of Indian Armed Forces awarded President’s Colour to Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala at Kochi, Kerala. The President’s Colour is the highest honour bestowed upon a military unit. Note: Chief of the Naval Staff: Admiral Karambir Singh.
  • Microsoft’s India-born Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella has occupied the top spot in Fortune’s Businessperson of the Year 2019 list.
  • World COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) Day is organised on the third Wednesday of November every year. This year the Theme is: All Together to End COPD.
  • International Film Festival of India 2019,IFFI features a Country of Focus that brings out the cinematic excellence and contributions of that particular country every year and this year, the country of focus is
  • Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg was awarded an international children’s peace prize, for her work in the struggle against climate change which has resonated with school children across the world.
  • Chitahresh Natesan, 33 yr old former hockey player turned bodybuilder, also known as the ‘Indian Monster’ by bodybuilding circles became the first Indian to win ‘Mr. Universe (Pro) 2019’ in 90kg category at the 11th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship (WBPF) in South Korea.
  • Union Minister for Jal Shakti released a short documentary film on Water Conservation named ‘Shikhar Se Pukar’.
  • Lieutenant Shivangi became the first-ever woman pilot for Navy.
  • Oxford Dictionaries has named “climate emergency” as its 2019 Word of the Year.
  • Every year the State of Manipur celebrates the “Manipur Sangai Festival”from 21st to 30th November. The ‘Festival’ is named after the State animal, Sangai, the brow-antlered deer found only in Manipur.
  • Eliud Kipchoge,the first man to run a marathon in less than two hours, and 400 metres hurdles world champion Dalilah Muhammad won the World Athlete of the Year awards.
  • Rafael Nadal has clinched 6th Davis Cup title for Spain after beating Denis Shapovalov of Canada.
  • NVIDIA has announced a new kind of GPU-accelerated supercomputer in the cloud on Microsoft Azure. NDv2 supercomputer is designed to handle demanding AI and high-performance computing applications, and is the world’s largest GPU-accelerated cloud-based supercomputer.
  • The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was observed across the world on 25th November. The theme for this year is “Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape”.
  • Constitution Day or Samvidhan Divas was celebrated on 26th November to mark the adopting of the Indian Constitution by the Constituent Assembly on this day in 1949. Note: The Constitution came into force on 26th January 1950.
  • Madhya Pradesh government has announced 5% reservation to national and international medallists sportspersons in state government jobs.
  • The Etawah Lion Safari,formally known as Etawah Safari Park was thrown open for public in Uttar Pradesh without the lion segment.
  • Uttar Pradesh government is launching a massive immunisation campaign against the filariasis or Filaria. The central government has set the year 2021 as the deadline for complete eradication of filaria in the country.
  • Floating school project(The Arcadia Education Project) of Bangladesh won Aga Khan Architecture Award.
  • The first-ever Prosperity & Inclusion City Seal and Awards (PICSA) Index,was released in the Basque Country capital of Bilbao in northern Spain. Bengaluru emerged as India’s highest-ranked city at  83 in a new index of the world’s 113 cities in terms of economic and social inclusivity, topped by Zurich in Switzerland.
  • National Milk Day is celebrated across the country on November 26 every year on the birthday of Dr Verghese Kurien. This day marks the birth anniversary of Verghese Kurien, the Father of White Revolution in India. Note: World Milk Day is observed on 1 June every year by the United Nations.
  • In a major step to conserve the endangered vulture population, the Uttar Pradesh government will set up the state’s first vulture conservation and breeding centre in farenda area of Maharajganj district.
  • The Chhattisgarh government has decided to declare Guru Ghasidas National Park in the state’s Korea district as a tiger reserve. Presently the state has three tiger reserves, namely Indravati in Bijapur district, Udanti-Sitanadi in Gariaband and Achanakmar in Bilaspur.
  • Noted writer from Rajasthan,Manisha Kulshreshtha, was awarded the 28th Bihari Puraskar for 2018 for her novel ‘Swapnapash’.
  • Indian journalist Neha Dixit has received 2019 International Press Freedom Awards.
  • India’s first‘Quality Ratna’ award was given to Suresh Krishna, Chairman, Sundram Fasteners Ltd. This award was awarded by trade body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Institute of Quality.
  • Odia women weightlifter Jhilli Dalabehera,who has brought laurels for both the State and the country in several national and international events, will receive the 27th Ekalabya Award for 2019. This award is instituted by Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT).
  • On 11th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, a book titled “Hemant Karkare -A Daughter’s Memoir” by his daughter Jui Karkare Navare was released in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
  • General Bipin Rawat to be the first Chief of Defence Staff. He will end his tenure as the Army Chief in December 2019. He will take over as the first Chief of Defence Staff – a four-star position being created as part of a defence management overhaul.
  • Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS)London has conferred the Honorary Fellowship of the Society for the year 2019 to G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO. He is the first Indian recipient of this prestigious award in over 100 years.
  • Indian Navy and the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF)have held a maiden bilateral exercise “Mine Countermeasure Exercise (MINEX) 2019” at Kochi, Kerala.
  • Lokpal Chairman Justice (retired) Pinaki Chandra Ghose launched the new logo and motto for the apex anti-corruption ombudsman. A new motto, “Ma Gridhah Kasyasvidhanam (Do not be greedy for anyone’s wealth)”, was also adopted. The logo was designed by Prashant Mishra, a resident of Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.
  • India wins bid to host 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup. Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar and Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium in Rourkela will be the venues for the tournament.

  • ‘Particles’ directed by Blaise Harrison and produced by Estelle Fialon has won the coveted Golden Peacock Award at the 50th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which concluded in Goa on November 28, 2019.
  • The “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People” was observed on 29th November.
  • Non-bank lender Aditya Birla Finance became the first company to list its commercial papers borrowing of Rs.100 crore on the bourses. The Kumarmangalam Birla-led company listed its CPs on NSE with a value date of November 28, 2019 and maturity date on February 7, 2020 on BSE and NSE, both the bourses.
  • Former deputy governor of RBI, HR Khan has been appointed as the first chairman of the steering committee of the Code for Responsible Lending (CRL) in micro-credit.
  • Steve Smith became the fastest cricketer to score 7,000 Test runs. The record was held for 73 years by English great Wally Hammond. Hammond reached the mark in 131 innings, while Smith, made the grade in his 126th. India’s Virender Sehwag is the third fastest in 134 innings.
