  • ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme will be available across the country from July 1, 2020.The scheme will allow portability of food security benefits according to which the poor migrant workers will be able to buy subsidised rice and wheat from any ration shop in the country as long as their ration cards are linked to Aadhaar.   • According to the Swiss National Bank (SNB), India has moved down one place to 74th rankin terms of money parked by its citizens and enterprises with Swiss banks.  K. has retained its top position.
  • University Grants Commission has approved a ‘Scheme for Trans-disciplinary Research for India’s Developing Economy’ (STRIDE)to boost research culture in India.
  • As per Second Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Statement for 2019-20, the Reserve Bank of India will stop imposing additional charges on Fund transfer through RTGS and NEFT systems from 1st July, 2019.  Note: The real time gross settlement (RTGS) system is meant for large value instantaneous fund transfers and the national electronic funds transfer (NEFT) system is used for fund transfers of up to Rs 2 lakh.
  • Tamil yeoman(Cirrochroa thais)butterfly has been declared the state butterfly of Tamil Nadu. These butterflies are also known as Tamil Maravan, which means warrior.
  • India celebrated 1st July as the “Goods & Services Tax DAY”. Note: GST was launched on 1st July 2017 in New Delhi. Chairperson of GST Council: Union Finance Minister of India.
  • The United Nations observed 30th June as International Asteroid Day.
  • The United Nations observed 30th June as the International Day of Parliamentarism.
  • India observed 1st July as the National Doctors’ Day. National Doctor’s Day is also celebrated to honour the legendary physician  Bidhan Chandra Roy.
  • Union Jal Shakti Minister launched a water conservation campaign ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’. The campaign will focus on five aspects: water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse of water and recharging of structures, watershed development, and intensive afforestation.
  • Prime minister has constituted a high powered committee of chief ministers for transforming Indian agriculture and raising farmers’ income. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will be the convenor of the committee.
  • New Zealand has officially banned single-use plastic shopping bags.
  • National Aluminium Company Limited(NALCO) has been selected for President’s award for utilisation of Corporate Social Responsibility fund in social development. NALCO started a scheme “Aliali Jhia” in 2015 to promote the education of Girls of BPL families. NALCO is an Odisha based Navaratna Company.
  • TheS. Senate has passed a legislative provision National Defense Authorisation Act for India. The act will bring India at par with America’s NATO allies.
  • The Indian and French Air Force started Garuda VI exerciseat Mont de Marsan in France.
  • The Reserve Bank of India has set up a working group to review the regulatory and supervisory framework for core investment companies (CIC). The group will be headed by Tapan Ray, non-executive chairman, Central Bank of India.
  • Maharashtra achieves first rank in NITI Aayog launched “Agricultural Marketing and Farmer Friendly Reforms Index (AMFFRI)”.
  • Aparna Kumar becomes first IPS officer to complete Seven Summit challenge by scaling Mt Denali. Note: Mt Denali is the tallest mountain in North America.
  • Airtel Payments Bank has partnered with Bharti AXA Life Insurance to offer a life term insurance plan.
  • India’s biggest ride-hailing platform Ola Cabs,has received approval from London’s transport regulator to start private hire vehicles (PHV) in the capital city of the UK. Ola will be the first ever platform to offer both PHVs and black cabs in the UK. Note: CEO of OLA: Bhavish Aggarwal; Headquarters: Bengaluru.
  • European Commission(EU) has elected Ursula von der Leyen as its new president.  She will replace Jean Claude Juncker. She has become the first woman to be elected to lead the EU’s executive arm.
  • The South Central Railway has commissioned the longest electrified tunnel of India. The tunnel which is between Cherlopalli and Rapuru stationsis 6 km long.
  • Reliance Jio ties up with Facebook for digital literacy initiative ‘Digital Udaan’.
  • The Henley Passport Index 2019 has ranked the Indian passport on the 86th position with a mobility score of 58. The score points out that Indian passport holders can access 58 countries around the world without a prior visa. Japan and Singapore holds the top spot with a score of 189.
  • UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee has listed Iraq’s Babylon as a World Heritage Site.
  • The United Nations observes first Saturday of July every year as International Day of Cooperatives.  This year it was observed on 6th Theme for 2019: COOPS 4 DECENT WORK.
  • Tata Steel Kalinganagar has been included in World Economic Forum’s Global Lighthouse Network. TSK in Odisha’s Jajpur district is the first and the only Indian manufacturing plant to be included in the WEF’s Lighthouse Network. Global Lighthouse Network is a community of manufacturers showing leadership in applying Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to drive financial and operational impact.
  • Indian Space Research Organisation has signed a contract with Russia’s Glavkosmos for selection support, medical examination and space training of Indian astronauts.
  • The Supreme Court of India has directed the Meghalaya government to deposit 100 crore fine. The fine was imposed by the NGT for failing to curb illegal coal mining.
  • The annual Bonalu festival was celebrated at the Jagadamba temple in historic Golconda Fort, Telangana. Note: Bonalu is the “state festival” of Telangana.
  • Nalin Shinghal has been appointed as the chairman and managing director of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited.
  • B Harideesh Kumar has been appointed as director of Institute of Banking Personnel Selection for a period of three years.
  • United States won FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 held in Lyon, France.
  • Rohit Sharma has set a world record of maximum hundreds in the single World Cup. He has become the first batsman in the world to score five hundreds in a single World Cup and break the record of Former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakarra. He has also equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of the total number of World Cup hundreds. Note: Venue of ICC World Cup 2019: England and Wales.
  • Kyriakos Mitsotakis was sworn in as the prime minister of Greece.
  • Sharjah’s first Golden Card visa was issued to an Indian expat businessman Lalu Samuel.  The Golden Card is a 10-year long-term visa eligible for investors and entrepreneurs to engage them in the renaissance and development of the UAE.
  • Odisha government has decided to give monthly allowance of 10,000to Padma award winners of the state facing financial problems.
  • The Reserve Bank of India board has finalised a three-year roadmap ‘Utkarsh 2022’.  It is a three-year road map for medium term objectives to be achieved for improving regulation and supervision of the central bank.
  • BCCI has formally appointed Rahul Dravid as the National Cricket Academy’s Head of Cricket.
  • Magnus Carlsen won the 2019 Croatia Grand Chess Tour India’s Viswanathan Anand finished 11th.
  • Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar’s directorial’Gully Boy’ has won the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) Award at the 23rd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) in South Korea.
  • According to property consultant CBRE, New Delhi’s Connaught Place (CP)is the 9th most expensive office location in the world. Hong Kong’s Central district retained the top spot as the world’s most expensive market for prime office rents.
  • France will impose green tax up to € 18 on plane tickets from 2020. The move aims to fund less-polluting transportation projects. A similar tax was introduced in Sweden in April 2018, which imposed an added charge of up to €40 on every ticket.   • Sri Lanka has become fifth country in the World Health Organisation (WHO) Southeast Asia region to eliminate measles. The other countries in the region which have achieved this feat are Bhutan, Maldives, DPR Korea and Timor-Leste.
  • Arun Kumar has been appointed as the Director General of aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
